I have waited for a very long time for this day! I can remember as far back as elementary school, dreaming about going to college. Long story short, I just recently applied for admissions to a community college. I got my acceptance letter on Tuesday! (You’re probably wondering why it took me so long to tell you.) I was so excited! Yeah, it’s just community college, but it’s such a huge thing for me. Last night as I was sitting on my bed reading the letter again, I was overcome with emotion. This has taken so long but it is FINALLY here!
For years, people have asked me where I went to college (since I am that age) and I have always had to reply “I don’t go to college”. I know it’s not something that everyone has to do, but it’s been one of my biggest desires. I always felt so disappointed when I had to give that answer. Now I can say “I go to THIS college!”
I’m nervous. I have to take a placement test because it’s been SO long since I graduated high school. Will I do ok? Will I be able to figure all this stuff out? Thankfully my sister is going to the same school and has been for about a year now. She’s been really supportive of my going, as my husband has too. Now I just have to get all my paperwork filled out, pick my classes, and start my college career! YAY!!
For those of you who have been to college, are in college now, or maybe just dream about going to college, please give me any advice, tips, etc. I’m sure I’ll need all I can get!
YAY! I’m so proud of you! I’ve been taking 1 class per semester for a few years now (since that’s all my job will pay for), and I would give ANYTHING to be able to quit work and go full time. Or even go full time if I still had to work. We just can’t afford any student loans. My advice…get a planner! STAY ORGANIZED! That’s the main thing. College is no joke and most professors don’t give 2nd chances if you miss an assignment. Granted, I take my classes online, but you still need something where you can see at a quick look what is due when. And don’t get behind. Once you get behind, it’s nearly impossible to catch up. If you stay organized and keep up, you’ll do great! I know you will!
That is great advice! Thanks! Yeah, I’m planning on taking online classes, but I can’t get the rodp website to let me apply! Grr.
Congrats!!! That is such wonderful news! My advice to you is just take deep breaths and don’t stress yourself out. Stress is totally your enemy in college. Also never procrastinate anything. You never know when something might come up that prevents you from doing homework or studying. I have learned if I pace myself I do so much better on my assignments and I’m not freaking out and having anxiety attacks. Since I started my MBA I have been a nervous wreck with anxiety so I try to just take a few moments to calm myself down with deep breaths and listening to classical music. It helps and just remember you can do it!!!
So proud!
Thanks! I will definitely be doing things on time or early if possible! I don’t like getting behind.
Wow, how exciting! 🙂 Didn’t you just start a new job too?
I sure did! It’s all falling into place!
