Monell’s At The Manor
A few weeks ago my mom, my sister and I went to Monell’s At The Manor. Monell’s is a staple in Nashville. They started out in the Germantown area of Nashville and have expanded to the Manor and a Cafe in Berry Hill. I had always wanted to go to the Manor. Before it was Monell’s it was the New Orleans Manor for 30 years. I never got to eat there, but I was excited to eat there as Monell’s!
The Manor
The house itself is beautiful. It was built in the 1890’s for a railroad tycoon. In late 1929 the house was destroyed by a fire and later rebuilt in the style of a Natchez, Mississippi mansion. In 1940 the house was acquired by the city of Nashville and is now leased to Monell’s.
Let me just tell you. The house rule is “No Phones At The Table”! While I absolutely love this rule, it kinda hinders a lifestyle blogger like myself! So I did sneak some pictures! Hehe.
The interior is gorgeous. I love historic homes. I wanted to go upstairs to see more but my mom and sister didn’t want to wait for me. I absolutely love the stairs and the chandelier!
In the hallway, back by the restrooms, they have scrapbooks that tell the history of the mansion. I enjoyed looking through it. Just wish I had had more time.
They also have this plaque telling some of the history.
This is just one of the dining rooms. As I was sitting there I kept wondering what that room was originally.
One of the coolest things about Monell’s At The Manor is the family seating. As in, you just fill in the table, sitting with people you don’t know yet. They also use mismatched dishes. Just like my Mamaw’s house!
The Food
Besides Monell’s being located in historic buildings, the food is what they are known for. We went during breakfast. My sister and I kept talking about how it was just like breakfast at Mamaw’s house! The food available at breakfast is Smoked Sausage, Bacon, Biscuits and Gravy, Country Ham, Fried Apples, Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Hashbrowns, Cheese Grits, Skillet Fried Chicken and Corn Pudding. Much of which my sister and I grew up eating when we would visit our grandparents. And let me tell you, everything was DE-LISH!
Some of the BEST fried chicken I’ve ever had. I don’t say this lightly! I’m a southern girl who loves her fried chicken. This picture is from the Monell’s website.
My bestie would love this Plate Of Bacon (and sausage and ham!) It was all cooked perfectly. The bacon was crispy which is extremely important to me. I don’t like chewy bacon! This picture is from LaurenLovesToEat.com.
Homemade biscuits and preserves. SO yummy! This picture is from LaurenLovesToEat.com.
I even tried the cheese grits! I haven’t ever liked them before but they weren’t too bad. The apples made me miss my Grandma. Seriously. They were almost as good as her’s. This picture is from LaurenLovesToEat.com.
When we were done eating they brought us the “check”.
How cute is that! LOL!
It was a great meal and a great time with my mom, my sister and the random people seated with us! I can’t wait to go back.
If you’re ever in Nashville, make sure you check out Monell’s At The Manor!
What are your favorite breakfast foods?
I did not receive anything for writing this post. These opinions are purely mine. Simply because I love my city and it’s food!
