Today is my Birthday! It is also the first day of my last year in my 20’s. EEK! *Deep Breath* I’ll be ok.
Since my birthday is also April Fool’s Day, people have always tried to fool me. It hardly ever works because I am EXPECTING it! I have only been fooled twice in my whole life. Both times were by my parents. The first time my mom put trick candles on my birthday cake when I was 8. You know, the kind that you blow out and they light back, over and over. Yeah. I eventually blew them out.
The second time was when I turned 23. My dad, my sister and I had been planning a surprise vow renewal ceremony for my mom during our cruise. The cruise was in May and we had been planning for 5 months or so. While I was at work on my birthday my dad called me. He said “I messed up. I let it slip and she knows.” I was freaking out! “DADDY! What do you mean?!” He didn’t say anything at first but then I heard him laughing and he said “April Fools!” He got me GOOD.
Those are the only times I was actually fooled. But I have had many people try. One that I’ll always remember (because it was so strange) was in the 2nd grade. I got to school late because I was bringing cupcakes. When I got to my class my friend came up to me and said: “Sarah, when is your birthday?” I told her “Today.” Then she said “April Fools Day!” and laughed. As if it was the funniest thing ever…..
Okaaay.
What April Fools Day stories do you have? I’d love to hear them!
