Five Daughters Bakery: Home of the 100 Layer Donut
When my sister said she was taking me somewhere and it was a surprise I wasn’t that excited. I’m not a big fan of surprises. But this one turned out to be great! She took me to Five Daughters Bakery in the 12 South neighborhood of Nashville. To get 100 Layer Donuts. Holy Donuts Batman!
These fabulous treats are donuts made from croissant dough. Once they are cooked they are then rolled in sugar, filled with cream and topped with a glaze. This is Five Daughters Bakery’s version of the cronut. She had some the day before when her co-worker brought some to work. She thought they were so good she had to take me.
When we got there I thought the building was so cute! White brick with bright turquoise trim. They have a nice patio in front with tables so you can enjoy the awesome weather we’re having. Inside is a ton of subway tile, open shelving and chalkboards. We told them that Joanna Gaines from Fixer Upper on HGTV would love it!
They also have their logo on a wall behind the counter. So cute!
I also love the donut painting on the mantle.
We wanted to try an assortment so we decided on the Milk Chocolate Sea Salt, Matcha Cream, Lemon Blueberry and Original 100 Layer Donuts. We also got a couple of the dough-knots for later.
I took a few pictures but I also found some better ones on their Instagram feed. I liked them all but my favorite was the Lemon Blueberry. My sister’s favorite was the Milk Chocolate Sea Salt. I really want to go back and try the Orange Blossom (pictured below: Lemon Blueberry, Orange Blossom, Matcha Cream & Strawberry) and the King Kong which is their Maple Glaze with bacon on top!
As soon as I took my first bite of the Milk Chocolate Sea Salt, a glob of the filling dripped onto my shirt. (Runs in the family!) It was still delicious. Creamy filling with the flaky layers and the chocolate glaze on top. Yum! Next, we tried the Matcha Cream. It had a cream filling with the Matcha Cream on top. I liked how fresh and light it was. I was actually excited to try the Matcha because I just recently learned about what it is and have been wanting to try it. For those of you who don’t know what it is, Matcha is a special green tea that is finely ground. You mix it with water with a special whisk and then drink it, but you can also use it in smoothies and obviously cream for donuts!
Last we tried the Lemon Blueberry. I don’t know if it was just that I’ve been craving fruity things lately or what, but I really loved this donut! The cream inside had a light & sweet lemon flavor and the glaze on top was the blueberry. So good!
So as I was looking through the Five Daughters Bakery Instagram feed, looking for more pictures of 100 Layer Donuts, I saw this awesome creation! A Wedding Cake made out of DONUTS! How brilliant!
