Finally a Phone that Works!

I’m so excited! I’ve had so many problems with the phone I have had for a year and a half. I love that phone, I just keep having hardware problems. Thankfully Sprint has been great about replacing my phone (4 times with the same kind of phone!) But today I got a new phone. A different kind of phone than I had. I am now a proud owner of an HTC Hero. This is my first Android phone and I’m so excited. I’ll only be using this phone until I upgrade in a few months. (I’m still not sure why Sprint wouldn’t just let me upgrade early…) However, this works out better because I have a phone that works now and when I upgrade, hubby can use this one until he gets to upgrade. Win-win.

I’m still learning how to do things on it, but I’ve always been really good about that. I love it so far. I’ll be sailing through it in no time!!

In other news, I lost 4 lbs last week!!! I was shocked when I weighed this morning. I had no clue I had lost that much in one week. I’m so proud of myself. I just have to keep at it.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Tasty Food that’s Healthy too?

With my goal to lose weight, I am having to change my eating habits. There are lots of “fat free”, “reduced fat” and “diet” foods, but most of them don’t taste very yummy. I am so glad that I found this awesome website called Gina’s Skinny Recipes. There are tons and tons of recipes on there. Gina has put the nutritional information, as well as Weight Watchers Points, for each recipe. You can search for recipes by clicking on one of many categories listed. It’s so resourceful!

Last week I made this amazing dish. Chicken Divan, Lightened Up. I made it for dinner when we had a friend over. I was making it as part of our new healthy eating habits, and partly to show of my cooking skills. Haha. She was impressed!

This stuff was so yummy! It was fresh ingredients, made from scratch wonderful food. I think I can get used to this healthy eating!

Weight Loss Challenge Wk 1

Today marks the end of the first week in my weight loss challenge. I think I’ve done pretty good. I exercised so much more this week than I have in a long time. I spent some time at the Ymca and am working on a goal of walking on the treadmill longer and faster. I also branched out and tried some new things on my Wii Fit that I thought I wasn’t able to do. I actually did pretty well! I’ve been eating healthier, counting calories, and drinking lots of water. I have more energy and I’m determined to do more.

Tonight I went to the Wives of Faith Nashville Chapter meeting. We are just starting up and only had 3 of us tonight, but that’s one more than last time! We have one more lady who is going to join us, but she wasn’t able to make it tonight. I’m SO glad I found this group. It means so much to me to have local military wives to get to know. Especially during deployment. They understand exactly what I’m going through. Even though I’ll be moving later this year, I know I’ll still have friends here in Wives of Faith when I move back.

In other news…

I’m so excited. I got the nanny job. I start on Tuesday! I’ll be working 5 days a week, just a few hours a day, which is perfect for me. Especially since I’ve been unemployed for almost 2 years. My new boss has even said it’s ok for me to bring my laptop so I can still talk to my husband when he’s online. That means SO much. She said “Of course! He’s overseas fighting for our freedom. It’s the least I can do.” I am so glad that I found a job with a good christian boss who somewhat understands what I’m going through in my life right now. I think we’ll become friends as well.

Well ladies, (and gents?) I must be off to bed now. I have to get in a more normal routine now that I’m employed. (YAY!) I pray you all have a GREAT Monday! :)

My Weight Loss Challenge

It’s no secret that most women want to lose weight, whether they need to or not. It’s been a self conscious problem for women for generations. I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. For years I have wanted to lose weight and have wondered why I couldn’t. It’s not like I’m stuffing my face with junk food. I think I eat fairly healthy. I know I eat healthier than a lot of my friends. I have for years. I hate white bread. I love salad, spinach, asparagus, broccoli, etc. I practically grew up on salmon and chicken. My biggest struggle is sugar. I love sweet tea and chocolate! (I have cut back to only water and I’ll eat a little bit of dark chocolate every once in a while)

In August, my doctor told me that I have PCOS. (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) One of the symptoms of that is Metabolic Syndrome. Basically, my metabolism is extremely low and that makes it difficult to lose weight. Or have any energy whatsoever. At that same appointment, I weighed in at my highest weight ever. It was heartbreaking. Since then I have been taking several medications for different things, but one of them is helping with the Metabolic Syndrome. I have lost 18 pounds since that first doctors appointment!

The Sarge has been working on losing weight to get back down to his target weight. He has done so well! He’s lost over 40 lbs since he deployed! I’m so proud of him! At the same time, I have felt like a failure because I haven’t lost as much weight. (this was before I knew I had lost 18 lbs) My sweet, amazing husband wants me to lose weight for my health. I want to lose it for my health and for my own self image. Mostly my health. So he has challenged me.

My goal is to lose 50 lbs by September 1st. (less than 8 lbs a month!) I think I can do it. The Sarge knows I can do it. I have a great support group. (He even emailed several family members & friends and asked them to encourage me daily! He’s amazing!!) I’m counting calories, but I’m not starving myself. I want to lose the weight and keep it off! I’m eating smaller meals more often, which is boosting my metabolism. I am drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day. I’m exercising more. I’m starting out slow and working up to more. And I feel great!

My mother-in-law emailed me today and encouraged me to get a pedometer so that I can track how many steps I walk. We will be doing that together, even though we are half a country apart! This is encouraging me to actually get up and WALK!

I’m excited about this challenge. I’m ready to lose weight and become healthier. I hope you will all pray for me and encourage me during these next few months as I work towards my goal.

I Feel The BURN!

One of my biggest goals during this deployment is to lose weight. For my health and to look HOT for my hubby!! Hehe. My sister and I joined the YMCA about a month ago and we’ve been going to water aerobics class at least once a week. This week we went twice. We LOVE the class we go to. It’s really fun, but intense! We love our instructor. She’s awesome. She really explains everything we’re doing, so we know what muscles we are working. She also shows us different ways to do things, if we aren’t able to do them the original way.

Last night we went to work out in the “30 Minute Cafe” room, where they have equipment that is a lot like Curves equipment. It’s all hydraulic, which is easier on women’s bodies. I hadn’t done that kind of exercise for a while, so I was really sore afterwards.

Then we went to water aerobics class tonight. OH MY GOSH! I am so sore!!! I am definitely feeling the BURN! But our instructor said I’m doing much better in class. It’s taking me a while to get used to all the moves. Plus, I have to be careful to not get water in my ears! Also, Hannah said my stomach is looking smaller! YAY!!! So yes. I LOVE WATER AEROBICS!!!!

Isn’t this picture just so cute!? Hehe.
