It’s My Birfday!!

I love celebrating my birthday! Even though I’m getting older, I cherish each year. This birthday is bittersweet for me, since my husband is still deployed (but coming home SOON!) and because my sweet Grandma is not doing well at all. Thankfully my sister and our best friend Cara are here to help cheer me up! Last night we spent time making dinner, with our new pampered chef stuff! Then we watched a movie. Today we are going shopping, maybe letterboxing, and going to see a movie. I’m excited! Here’s some pics from last night.

My sister gave me a $25 gift card for my Fave place! Starbucks! YUM!

.

.

I got money from my grandparents, my aunt and her roommate. The stack of $1′s is from my Aunt. LOL!

And today I got some beautiful flowers from my deployment support group! These girls are amazing! I love them so much!!! (I’ll post pics tonight. I’m about to go shopping!) So far it’s been a great day. Especially since I got to talk to my sweetheart for a couple of hours, online AND he called me! Oh how I love that man!

It’s Official! I Is A College Student

.

I have waited for a very long time for this day! I can remember as far back as elementary school, dreaming about going to college. Long story short, I just recently applied for admissions to a community college. I got my acceptance letter on Tuesday! (You’re probably wondering why it took me so long to tell you.) I was so excited! Yeah, it’s just community college, but it’s such a huge thing for me. Last night as I was sitting on my bed reading the letter again, I was overcome with emotion. This has taken so long but it is FINALLY here!

For years people have asked me where I went to college (since I am that age) and I have always had to reply “I don’t go to college”. I know it’s not something that everyone has to do, but it’s been one of my biggest desires. I always felt so disappointed when I had to give that answer. Now I can say “I go to THIS college!”

I’m nervous. I have to take a placement test because it’s been SO long since I graduated high school. Will I do ok? Will I be able to figure all this stuff out? Thankfully my sister is going to the same school and has been for about a year now. She’s been really supportive of my going, as my husband has too. Now I just have to get all my paperwork filled out, pick my classes, and start my college career! YAY!!

For those of you who have been to college, are in college now, or maybe just dream about going to college, please give me any advice, tips, etc. I’m sure I’ll need all I can get!

Christmas Ornaments

The tree is decorated, the stockings are hung. Christmas is coming soon! Are you ready? I know I am! I thought I would share some pictures of some of my favorite ornaments.

.

.

This one is new. My sister and I painted pottery during our staycation and this is the ornament that I painted. I’m proud of it. The other side says “Christmas 2010″

.

.

This is my absolute favorite ornament. The Sarge gave it to me for Christmas in 2008, just a month after we started dating. If you can’t tell, it says “Our First Christmas Together 2008″.

.

.

This picture is blurry, but I got this ornament at the Ryman Auditorium, during our staycation. It’s a lot prettier in person!

.

.

I got this ornament on our family cruise in 2008. FYI: I love unique ornaments that have special meanings.

.

.

I got this one this year, at the gift shop at the ICE exhibit at Opryland Hotel.

.

.

This one is very special to me. My amazing sister gave it to me. I love it.

.

.

I gave this one to The Sarge for our first Christmas together.

.

.

OK, so this isn’t technically an ornament, but I love my nativity scene. If you notice, it’s under the tree. We have done this for as long as I can remember. I asked my mom one year why we did. She didn’t know! But I decided that it’s because Jesus is the greatest gift of all. :)

.

.

This is our tree all lit up. So pretty!

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse of my Christmas decorations! I’d love to see what your’s look like!

Adventure Science Center: Day Three of Staycation

.

On Tuesday we went to the Adventure Science Center. (It used to be called the Cumberland Science Museum and we still call it that! LOL!) It’s one of our favorite places in the whole city. It’s so much fun! Lots of fun things to do. Here’s some of the pics I took there.

.

.

That night we went to dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse with our parents. It was soo yummy. I just got one pic there.

..

It was a long, but great day!

Chocolate Covered Strawberry: Day Two of Staycation

.

We had planned on going to The Hermitage on Monday, but instead we went to my sister’s school. (My future school!) She had to talk to financial aid about the scholarship she had received. I talked to the admissions office. We weren’t there that long.

School

.

Afterwards we went to this adorable little place called the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cafe. It was soooo yummy!! We had a buy one, get one free coupon. Of course! I had the Chicken BLT with Deli Chicken, Finely Chopped Bacon, Lettuce & Sundried Tomato Pesto on a croissant, with the Chopped Greens and Strawberries with their Homemade Crunchy Strawberry Vinaigrette. It came with a chocolate covered strawberry. I also had fruit tea, which I LOVE! My sister had the quiche of the day that was served with a slice of AMAZING carrot cake and a chocolate covered strawberry. This place was so great. I just wish it was closer! LOL!

.

.

After lunch we went to see a friend of mine for a few minutes. Then we went to get haircuts. My sister just got a trim, I added bangs! Here’s our before pictures.

And here is my after. (Didn’t get one of her’s but it’s pretty much the same! LOL!)

Me - After

When we got home, I had gotten a package from my husband in the mail! I was so excited. He had sent me my copy of Sarah Palin’s book, which he gave me for my birthday and then sent it overseas for HIM to read! LOL! He also sent me some movies he had gotten and then I saw this:

.

.

Yes. I cried. He is the sweetest guy ever! I love him so much.

Nashville Zoo: Our First Day of Staycation

.

I love the Nashville Zoo. It was originally located in Joelton TN and opened in 1990. Grassmere Wildlife Park opened the same year, but later closed in 1996. Then the Nashville Zoo moved to Grassmere, which is located in South Nashville.

My sister and I went to the zoo for our first official day of staycation. It was a free day for military. There were TONS of people there! LOL! But it was fun. Here are a few pics.

Staycation!!

.

“A staycation (also spelled stay-cationstacation, or staykation) (in the United Kingdom: stoliday or holistay) is a neologism for a period of time in which an individual or family stays and relaxes at home, possibly taking day trips to area attractions. Staycations achieved popularity in the US during the financial crisis of 2007–2010.[1][2] Staycations also became a popular phenomenon in the UK in 2009 as a weak pound made overseas holidays significantly more expensive.[3] The term was added to the 2009 version of the Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary.[4]

Common activities of a staycation include use of the backyard pool, visits to local parks and museums, and attendance at local festivals. Some staycationers also like to follow a set of rules, such as setting a start and end date, planning ahead, and avoiding routine, with the goal of creating the feel of a traditional vacation.”    -From Wikipedia

My sister and I couldn’t afford to go anywhere for vacation. She only gets one week a year of vacation, so we decided to have a Staycation instead! We have planned a week full of fun activities. We are going to do a lot of tourist-y things! Even though we’ve lived here our whole lives, some of this stuff we have never done.

Our Schedule:

Yesterday

We went to a pizza place we’ve never tried, called NYNY Pizza. Had a coupon for buy one get one free pasta. AMAZING! It was soo yummy. After that we went to see “Red”. GREAT movie!

Today

We are going to the Nashville Zoo. Today is free for military. YAY! (We are trying to make this staycation as cheap as possible!)

Monday

We are going to the Hermitage (home of President Andrew Jackson. A mile from our home!). We’ve been there a bunch of times during our life, but it’s been awhile. It’s always free for military. After that we are getting lunch at Salsarita’s (with coupon) and then going to paint pottery!

Tuesday

We are going to the Adventure Science Center, but we will always and forever call it the Cumberland Science Museum! (It’s original name) We LOVE this place!! That night we are going to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse with our parents. Never been there, so we’re pretty excited!

Wednesday

We decided to get mani/pedi’s and haircuts! Afterwards, we’re just gonna hang out at home and catch up on our dvr.

Thursday

Downtown Part 1: Tour of the Ryman Auditorium, Duck Tours, and lunch at BB Kings.

Friday

It will be our friend’s birthday so we are doing a bunch of stuff with her. Decorating our house for Christmas (since sis won’t have time once she goes back to work). Then we’re doing dinner and a movie and then coming home for a game night/slumber party!

Saturday

Downtown Part 2: Parthenon museum, TN State Museum (always free!), and that night we’re going to Chaffins Dinner Theatre (half off with military discount!). YAY!

So, needless to say, we are VERY excited!! I will be posting pictures soon too! Hope everyone has a GREAT week!

Birthday Celebration

My birthday was so much fun! Even though I was cleaning most of the day with my friend again, it was an AWESOME day! This is what I woke up to:

I was SO excited! I got exactly what I wanted! My Army teddy bear, “Love Happens” on dvd, and my Chocolate Extreme Blizzard cake from Dairy Queen:

Not to mention the fact that my husband COOKED DINNER FOR ME!! He made this AMAZING chicken, his famous made from SCRATCH mashed potatoes, broccoli and cheese, and croissant rolls. YUM! He is SO good!

He also gave me 3 seasons of Gilmore Girls on DVD, and my FAVORITE movie “My Fair Lady” on DVD! YAY!!!

My sissy came up to see me for my birthday! She gave me a cute stuffed frog that “Ribbits” and an adorable purple clutch wallet. She loves me! :)

After we ate dinner and cake, we played “Apples to Apples” which is my favorite game. OMG! If you haven’t played it, you must go buy it NOW! It’s freakin awesome! After that, we were just having fun and goofing around. My sister then tortured my husband:

It was GREAT fun! Here is my sister and my friend DiAnna, who has been helping me clean and pack:

So, my birthday was awesome. Probably one of the best! I am so blessed!

Sister Day!

Today my baby sister and I are going to spend the day together! (Ok, she’s not a baby! She’s only 2 years younger than me!) I’m excited because we haven’t spent much time together since I got married. Mostly because I live an hour away and hubby and I have been staying close to home to save money.

My sister is one of my absolute BEST FRIENDS! She’s the best sister anyone could ask for! I am so blessed to have her in my life!

She was also my maid of honor! And a good one! She helped keep everyone in line and me calm! LOL!

Well, enough talking. I’m gonna go see her! YAY!

Much love,

Sarah Ruth
