My Husband Rocks Friday: Sweetest Guy!

.

So my cousin-in-law took this pic of me and my bestie on my wedding day. She posted it on Facebook. Here is how the comments went:

Me: I love how excited we look!! LOL!

The Sarge: That must be a VERY interesting spot on the wall! LOL

Me: It’s called a MIRROR! We were looking at ME!

Bestie: You were such a beautiful bride!

The Sarge: Were? She still is!

*LOVE* He is seriously the sweetest man ever. I love him SO much!

My Dream Wedding

.

I started dreaming of my wedding day when I was just a little girl. I always wanted to get married in the same room my parents did, the chapel in my home church. With my best friends standing by my side. All of my friends and family there to watch my become a Mrs. Every little detail would be perfect.

.

.

When Matthew proposed, we knew he would be deployed at some point but we thought we had plenty of time to plan my dream wedding. The day after I got our personalized napkins in the mail we found out his deployment had been bumped up by 6 months and we would have to change our wedding date.

.

.

We finally decided on January 16th, 2010. With only 4 months to plan, we had to move quickly. It also meant that a lot of our family and friends could not make it to our wedding. We invited a little more than 100 people. Which for some people is big. However, with the size of my family and the number of friends we have, we wanted to invite over 300!

.

.

A lot of the small detail we worked out the way I wanted them. My flowers and my sister’s flowers. The colors we used. The paper lanterns in the reception room. The purple shoes with my lime green nail polish.

.

.

One big thing that didn’t happen. My grandparents weren’t there. My dad’s parents have both passed away. My mom’s parents are still alive and very much a part of my life. Due to their health, they were not able to travel to my wedding.

.

.

We had our ceremony in the foyer to the chapel. I loved how it turned out! The candelabras are the exact same ones that my parents used in their wedding.

.

.

Matthew’s brother Keith was his best man. My sister Hannah was my maid of honor. Matthew’s daughter Callie was our flower girl. Our friend’s son Ty was our ring bearer. Matthew’s best friend Rodney sang for us. The rest of the guys Matthew asked to be groomsmen couldn’t make it. That’s why we decided to just have a best man and maid of honor. We did have ushers who were (from Left to Right) my cousin Eric, our friend (my “brudder”) Brian, our friend (My “brother”) Toye, and my best friend Josh. My best friend Kelly was my honorary Matron of Honor. I felt bad about not having my other bridesmaids stand up with me. I didn’t even get pictures with them. That’s definitely something I would have changed.

.

.

These center pieces were EXACTLY what I wanted. My mom did such an amazing job with them! We only did half of the center pieces like this.

.

.

I absolutely loved the cupcakes we had. They were adorable and SO yummy! Probably the best I’ve ever had! But I think I would have a cake at the next wedding.

.

.

I had a vision of my reception being in a beautiful ballroom with chandeliers galore. I am very pleased with the way it turned out though. I think the only big thing I would change about the room itself would be: No Fluorescent lights!!

.

.

Here’s a big detail I would change. We originally wanted to have our “guest book” be a signature picture frame. When we have our “BIG” wedding, we will do that.

.

.

We decided to do a “unity candle” in our wedding. Since we plan on having a bigger vow renewal ceremony for all of our friends and family, we are going to do a sand ceremony. We didn’t want to do that for this ceremony since you can only mix different colored sand once! LOL!

.

.

When I look back at our wedding, it was really the perfect day. There were things that didn’t go as planned. There were details I will change for our big ceremony. But the day I married the love of my life was absolutely perfect. I will never think differently.

.

This was prompted by Mama Kat’s Writing Prompts. “If you could do your wedding over, how would you do it?”

Mother’s Day Tribute

Mother’s Day is this Sunday. So this post is all about my mom.

.

My beautiful Mommy

.

When I was little, my mom and I would stand at the front door and clap and cheer for the lightning and thunder. We would thank God for the rain. My whole life my mom has been an example to me. Shown me how to praise God for the good and the bad. To always have faith that God will never give us more than we can handle. It wasn’t until 4 years ago that I was really able to understand, and appreciate, my mom’s faith in God.

During my teen years, I was horrible. I argued with, yelled at, blatantly disobeyed, and basically did everything I could to hurt my mother. I thought she didn’t understand me. Thought she didn’t know what I was going through. And for a lot of it, she didn’t. I was hurting and I took it out on her and the rest of my family.

.

.

I used to watch one of my favorite shows, Gilmore Girls, and wish that I could have a good relationship with my mom like the main characters in the show had. I was so jealous. I never thought I would have that. I so desperately wanted my mom to know who I was, even though I didn’t even know myself.

.

.

My mom never stopped praying for me. Begging God for my life!

When I moved out of the house I missed my mommy. I called her more. Asked for advice. I didn’t always listen to her advice, but I was still in my rebelious phase.

In October 2005, my life changed. I was at church and was listening to a guest speaker. He was talking about being baptized. Now, I had been baptized when I was little, but it wasn’t until I was 14 that I understood what giving my life to Christ really meant. So listening to that speaker talk about baptism being an act of obedience, I felt God tugging on my heart telling me that I needed to be baptized again. I started crying. I was so embarrassed to be baptized again in the church I grew up in. All those people would know that I wasn’t saved the first time. But I knew I had to do it.

.

.

On my Mommy’s birthday the next year, I was baptized again. This time it was a true act of obedience. Ever since then, I have focused on my relationship with God and repairing my relationships on earth. Especially the relationship with my mom. Now I talk to her almost every day. I value her opinion. I ask for her advice, and I listen to it! I see how wise my mom is. Our relationship isn’t perfect, but she is one of my best friends. When things happen, I call my mom! I love spending time with her!

I was talking to my mom one day last week. I was telling her about the bible study Matthew and I have been going to, which is about faith. I was telling her about that week’s lesson. She asked me if she had been a good mom. If I had learned from her. I just started to cry. I told her that I learned so much from her! About life, about faith, about being compassionate. So many things. I told her that when I see a beautiful sunset, I just praise God for his beauty. Because she taught me that!

.

.

I am so blessed to have her as my mom. I couldn’t ask for anyone better.

Valentine’s Day 2010

This is our 2nd Valentine’s day together, but our first as husband and wife. Last year he bought me some awesome gifts. A movie, some chocolate, a pink teddy bear, and had roses sent to my office! It was great. This year, he let me go spend the weekend with my mom and sister! LOL!

See, my dad goes to Mardi Gras every year with a group of guys for street witnessing. So that is our girls weekend. So my amazing hubby decided that he would pick up some extra shifts at Outback (so he’d have something to do!) so I could spend the weekend with my mom and sister. But he didn’t forget about me! On Saturday he had flowers sent to my mom’s house for me. Five red roses and one purple rose. (Since purple is my fave color) It was so awesome. (I got mine a couple of hours after my mom got roses sent from my dad!!)

My flowers

My mommy with her flowers and chocolate from my dad!

On Sunday, after hubby got off work and I got back from Nashville, we went to Olive Garden for dinner. Which was OH SO AMAZING!! (Seriously try the new Four Cheese Stuffed Pansotti with Chicken!) After our fabulous dinner, we headed to the movie theater to see “Valentine’s Day”. I really wanted to see it! I am so glad hubby agreed to see it because it was awesome! So much better than I thought it would be. If you haven’t seen it, I’m not going to give anything away. If you have seen it, then you should understand why Julia Roberts’ character was my favorite. (If you don’t understand why, ask me!)

When we got home, this is what we saw:

(Sorry the pic is so dark. It was taken on my phone, because I can’t find my camera!)

This is the pop-up card (bottom left), stuffed animals & chocolate (right) that hubby got me!!

I had gotten the banner and the balloon with the teddy bear to weigh it down for the Valentine’s Day themed scrapbooking day my mom, sister and I had with some friends on Saturday. Part of our girls weekend. I brought them back home before I went to Olive Garden to meet hubby. I hadn’t seen his gifts for me though! He also got me Sarah Palin’s new book that I’ve been begging for! YAY! So excited to read that! I got hubby a giant red heart pen (He uses giant pens to take orders at Outback!) and some chocolate. I didn’t get him anything else, because he is getting a Zune for his birthday! His birthday was last week, but I just ordered the Zune. LOL! He knew he was getting it. That was he can have tons of music while he’s deployed.

So that was our Valentine’s Day. I think it was pretty awesome! What did you do for Valentine’s Day?

Much Love,

Please Forgive Me!

I know. I’m horribly behind on my blog! But I have just been enjoying my new married life. My husband is so wonderful! We have been enjoying each other for the last 2 weeks. We didn’t go on a honeymoon yet, so the week after we got married we just stayed home and relaxed. That Thursday he had laser eye surgery and I got to play nurse and take care of him. He’s doing much better now and can see great! He went back to work on Monday but only for a couple of hours. Tuesday was back to normal. Thankfully his second job has been cut wayyy back so we have been able to spend some good quality time together!

This weekend, we are at my parents house. Snowed in. First time in YEARS! Lol! So we’re hoping we will be able to drive home tomorrow so hubby can be back for work on Monday!

Today we have been married for TWO WEEKS! It still hasn’t sunk in all the way, I don’t think! I randomly think to myself “OMG! I’m MARRIED!!” But I completely love it!

Other than that, life isn’t all that excited for me. I’m trying to come up with some things for me to do during the day. I’ll have to get into that later though. I am going to try to blog more regularly. My readers need SOMETHING! (I love you ALL!)

Well, it’s late. I will update more tomorrow! I promise!

Much Love,
