MilSpouse Friday Fill-In #63

Source

It’s that time again! As always, please remember to check out the other amazing MilSpouses. (Click on the picture!)

1. The best part of October was the beautiful colors! I love getting to see the reds, yellows, and oranges of the fall trees! My Fave time of year!

2. The worst part of October was not being able to have people over. We are still unpacking and there’s not really room for us to entertain yet. We’re working on it though!

3. For Halloween, I’ll be myself. Hubby will be working and I’ll probably be home watching tv. If I was gonna go out though, I’d totally be Flo from the Progressive commercials!

4. I hope that in November I can get most of my Christmas shopping done! I like to get it done early so that I can actually enjoy the Christmas season.

5. Wifey has posted MilSpouse Secret Santa. I  will not be participating. Only because I have already signed up for a couple others. Maybe next year!

Easter Blessings

.

Matthew 28:1-10
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” (NIV)

This is one of my new favorite songs, by one of my favorite artists. I pray you all have a blessed Easter and remember HE IS RISEN!

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

.

I love St Patrick’s Day! I love the green, I love the luck, I love the Irish! It’s always been one of my favorite holidays. I can remember back in elementary school, pinching anyone who wasn’t wearing some form of green. These days, I make sure I’m wearing green. Starting at midnight! This year, I have green finger nails. (not unusual for me!) I am also wearing my Old Navy “Happy St Patrick’s Day 2008″ shirt. Only because I can’t find my “Kiss Me I’m Irish” shirt. I’m slightly upset about that.

I think I’ll make some yummy shepherd’s pie for dinner today. What do you do for St Patty’s Day? And most importantly… Are YOU wearing GREEN?!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

.

I hope you all have a very Happy Valentine’s Day!

Cherish the ones that you love. Make sure you tell them you love them today!

Happy New Year!

.

The year is coming to an end again. 2010 was good to me. I married my sweetheart. The year was also hard, because he deployed 6 months later. Nevertheless, it was good. I am excited for what 2011 will bring me. My husband will be home, we’ll be moving to a new duty station. Who knows what else the new year will bring. I’m open for anything!

I hope you all have a blessed and Happy New Year. It’s gonna be GREAT!

5 Months

.

A few days ago was the 5 month mark for The Sarge being deployed. It’s been a long 5 months. Each month seems to last longer than the one before. Especially this month! I wish I could fast forward. Thankfully in a few short weeks my sweetheart will be in my arms again! I am counting down the days.

Since The Sarge missed Thanksgiving, and he’s missing Christmas, we’re having Thanksgiving/Christmas/our one year anniversary/his birthday all in one weekend while he is here. I’m so excited about it! My family and I are all saving the big presents for then. So it’s gonna be awesome. My sister and I are also trying to plan a small get together for a few of The Sarge’s friends. Oh, don’t worry. There will be lots of pictures! But I will not be online much at all while he’s here. Not to mention the rest of this week, for Christmas. And after Christmas my bestie is coming to see me (YAY!!!!) so I won’t be online. And I’m working at a wedding on New Year’s Eve. So……. It may be a while til you hear from me again! (besides the quick message) I hope you all have an amazing Christmas and a Happy New Year!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in #25

Happy Friday everyone! I’ve been anticipating this weekend for over a month now. We have tickets to go see the Nutcracker tomorrow night! YAY! Me, my sister and our parents are going. I’m so excited. However, tonight, our parents are taking us somewhere. We have no clue where! I will definitely be posting about it later though.

Well, here are this weeks questions and my answers! Enjoy!

1. What is the best gift you have ever received or given?

The best gift I’ve ever received. Last Christmas. It was just a few weeks before we got married. My amazing sweetheart gave me a “New Army Wife Kit” as he called it. It had the Army Wife handbook, (yes there really is one!) a map of our current post, several things about military life, and a hat, tshirt and lanyard that say “Army Wife”. It made me tear up. I loved it! So special.

2. Do you celebrate holidays differently when your loved one is deployed/gone or do you keep tradition?

This is our first married Christmas, but this will be our 3rd Christmas together as a couple. Last year The Sarge and his youngest daughter joined my family for Christmas at my grandparents house. This year, we will be going to their house again. I’m hoping to be able to Skype with The Sarge as we open our gifts.

3. If you celebrate Christmas, do you put an angel, star or something else on the top of your tree?

We have a star on the tree. When we were younger, my mom put a red bow on the tree. Thankfully she’s upgraded to a star. Much better. :)

4. What are your three favorite websites?

Oh wow. That changes quite often, honestly. But currently, it’s Military Significant Other Support (MSOS) which is a message forum for, you guessed it, Military significant others. Spouses, girlfriends, even families. It’s a great site. I have “met” some of the most amazing women on there. They are really helping me get through this deployment.

My next fave would have to be SITS (Secret is in The Sauce), which is a blogging support site. More like a sisterhood, or SITSah-hood. Hehe. They have featured bloggers, blogging tips, memes, giveaways, etc.

And my 3rd fave would have to be Facebook. I know, it’s everyone’s fave! But Facebook and Twitter are the main way I communicate with The Sarge. That, to me, is priceless.

5. On your man do you prefer… boxers, briefs or boxer briefs? Or commando?

I really think that if I answered this question on my blog (which is also connected to my facebook!) my husband would KILL me! LOL! You’ll just have to keep guessing.

Christmas Ornaments

The tree is decorated, the stockings are hung. Christmas is coming soon! Are you ready? I know I am! I thought I would share some pictures of some of my favorite ornaments.

.

.

This one is new. My sister and I painted pottery during our staycation and this is the ornament that I painted. I’m proud of it. The other side says “Christmas 2010″

.

.

This is my absolute favorite ornament. The Sarge gave it to me for Christmas in 2008, just a month after we started dating. If you can’t tell, it says “Our First Christmas Together 2008″.

.

.

This picture is blurry, but I got this ornament at the Ryman Auditorium, during our staycation. It’s a lot prettier in person!

.

.

I got this ornament on our family cruise in 2008. FYI: I love unique ornaments that have special meanings.

.

.

I got this one this year, at the gift shop at the ICE exhibit at Opryland Hotel.

.

.

This one is very special to me. My amazing sister gave it to me. I love it.

.

.

I gave this one to The Sarge for our first Christmas together.

.

.

OK, so this isn’t technically an ornament, but I love my nativity scene. If you notice, it’s under the tree. We have done this for as long as I can remember. I asked my mom one year why we did. She didn’t know! But I decided that it’s because Jesus is the greatest gift of all. :)

.

.

This is our tree all lit up. So pretty!

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse of my Christmas decorations! I’d love to see what your’s look like!

Christmas Questions

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper!!!!

2. Real tree or Artificial? Growing up we always had real trees. And then planted them after Christmas. (They are all still at our old house too!!) Now we just use artificial. I’m ok with that.

3. When do you put up the tree? Usually we will do it Thanksgiving night or sometime that weekend.

4. When do you take the tree down? After New Years. So it’s still up for our New Year’s Day Open House.

5. Do you like eggnog? NO! That’s so gross.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Well, I don’t remember actually getting it, because it was my first Christmas, but my stuff dog Big Doggie. I still have him. He’s my favorite.

7. Hardest person to buy for? My grandparents. They don’t need or want anything. :(

9. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes. But I still want a Willow Tree one.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail! Getting real mail is so much better.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Yes. But usually just the dirty santa gifts.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Grandma’s Macaroni and Cheese!

16. Lights on the tree (colored or clear)? I love both. Even better if they blink! I like to watch the patterns on the wall.

17. Favorite Christmas song? That’s a loaded question. There are too many to name. Although, right now it is “All I Want for Christmas is You”. And it’s true.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? My mom always wants to stay home, but we always end up talking her into going to my grandparents’ house. It’s just not the same without them. And we won’t have many more Christmases with them.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas morning.

22. Favorite children’s Christmas song? The Chipmunk Christmas Song

23. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Annoying? About Christmas? Nothing! Ok, well this year it’s the obvious. My sweetheart isn’t here. This is both of our favorite holiday. It’s not the same without him.

24. Favorite ornament theme or color? I don’t have a theme for our tree, except that our ornaments are all special. I get them for events, places we go, etc. They all have special meaning.

25. Turkey or ham on Christmas day? Ham!!!!!!!!!!! Honey Baked Ham preferably!

26. What do you want for Christmas this year? A Kindle. And my husband home safely.

27. Does anyone in your family dress up as Santa? The Sarge would if he could.

28. Age you discovered who Santa was? 7. We went to my aunt & uncle’s house that year. The parents were all loud. My sister and I snuck downstairs and heard them talking. Fail.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In #23

It’s that time again. MilSpouse Friday! How has YOUR week been? My week has been kinda boring. I did get some Christmas shopping done!

Anyways. Here’s my answers!

1. If you were given $1,000 right now, how would you spend it?

I’d use it to pay some bills off, so we can be closer to being financially independent.

2. If you had to choose a movie title (a real one that already exists) for your life story, what would it be?

Oh wow. That’s a tough one! My sister suggested “Sarah Plain and Tall” because it has my name in it! The only one I can think of now is “You’ve Got Mail” because my husband and I met online. LOL!

3. If you were a teacher, what subject would you like to teach?

Arts and crafts! Because I love doing all kinds of crafty things.

4. Has being a MilSpouse changed how you view holidays or how your holidays are celebrated? If so, how? If not, what hasn’t changed?

This year has definitely made me realize exactly how important it is to be with my family during the holidays. Thanksgiving was so hard on me because my husband is deployed. I know Christmas will be even more difficult. But I also know that celebrating the holidays on the specific day is not the important thing. The important thing is spending time with your loved ones.

5. What is your favorite Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate) memory?

Oh man. Christmas 2006. My aunt wanted the Tickle Me Elmo TMX. Yes, the year when that was the IT toy and NO ONE had them! Unless you wanted to pay triple the retail price on ebay. Well, I’m amazing and I got her one. For retail price! Here are some of the pics of her opening it.

I hate that the pics are blurry, but my dad wasn’t used to my camera, and she was moving really fast! She was SO excited!! Hard to top it.
