It’s My Birthday!!

Today I am the Birthday Princess! Oh yeah! I’m turning 27 today. Well, at 9:25 pm I will be 27. It’s still hard to believe!

Unfortunately I’m still fighting this cold/strep throat. I’m getting better but it’s still irritating to be under the weather on your birthday! Oh well. Story of my life.

The Sarge gave me an early gift a couple of weeks ago. It’s a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1! Love it!! It’s so similar to my phone that it’s super easy to use. It’s awesome. He also gave me a gift right after midnight last night. (officially my birthday!) It was a Miranda Lambert cd. He has some more stuff but I have to wait til later to get them! I’m ok with that. We are going to hang out with my family today so I’m excited! I miss them! Let the birthday celebration commence!

Springtime Sickness Pt 2

Lucky me! I have strep throat. Yup. I finally got so bad that I had to go to the urgent care clinic on post, for the second time! The first time I went, the clinic area was closed so we had to go to the emergency room to be seen. They didn’t do ANYTHING for me! I was so mad. 2 hours wasted. This time the clinic was open. I didn’t have to wait long because there was only one other person waiting. At that point I hadn’t been able to talk above a whisper for over 2 days. The guy that took my vitals was so nice. I felt bad for me. He did a strep test and apologized for it because it hurt me.

They gave me this stuff to gargle and swallow which helped my tonsils. It tasted HORRIBLE!! Oh my goodness. Hope I never have to do that again. Then they gave me a shot of penicillin. The gargle stuff was worse than the shot! Haha. I had to wait around for a while to make sure I didn’t have an allergic reaction to the shot. The Sarge went down to the pharmacy in the hospital to get a head start. It usually takes over an hour! He told me to wait for him in the clinic waiting room. I was there for about an hour and got tired of waiting in there. So I made my way down to the pharmacy. I found him and we were about 10 people away from being called. It went pretty quick after that. We got my medicine and then finally got out of there!

Last night I still had to sleep on the couch. I can’t lay down, even with pillows propping me up, because I cough so much. But sitting up on the couch I was able to sleep for 6 straight hours! Best sleep I’ve had all week!! I am feeling so much better today! I’m still coughing a bit and my nose is still stopped up. But so much better than the last few days! Thank God for penicillin! I’m praying I can breathe better by tomorrow. Since it will be my birthday!

Well, we’re off to get some food in our tummies! I hope you are all doing well!!!

Springtime Sickness

Spring is my favorite season hands down. There is just something about spring that always gets to me. Oh wait. That would be getting sick! Haha. As much as I love spring, I hate all the pollen and crud going around. For as long as I can remember I have gotten sick every single spring. It’s so unfair. I’ve been sick on my birthday countless times, on Easter, etc. It has ruined trips and other plans. It’s just not fun.

I think someone should invent a pill or something that would completely stop colds from existing. Life would be so much easier! If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m sick right now. Ugh. I feel weak and have a fever. My throat hurts a little bit until I cough. Those really deep, body wracking coughs that just hurt.

Honestly, I blame my husband. HAHA! He got sick first and then I got sick. It’s all his fault! Ok, I’m not mad at him or anything but it is his fault. He admits it too. We’re both miserable together. I guess it’s better to be sick together than not. That way we are on the same page for our evening activities. No going out for us! Just relaxing at home and trying to get better. I’m just praying this sickness doesn’t last long. I have been sick for weeks on end before. Talk about miserable!

Well enough of my belly-aching. I hope you are all doing well and are all healthy! I’ll try not to spread my germs through this post. :)

Happy Birthday Sweet Grandma

Today is my Grandma’s 82nd birthday. It is her first birthday to spend in Heaven. I can’t imagine the party they are having! I miss her more than words can describe but I thank God that she is with her Heavenly Father as well as her sweetheart. She’s with her mommy and daddy as well. What a joyous day.

Happy Birthday Grandma! I love you so much and I miss you more than you know. I hope you have a fabulous day! Keep watching over me and our family. And give Grandpa a big kiss for me. I love you both!!

Your favorite first granddaughter,

Sarah Ruth

Intro To Army Life

When you marry a soldier you are not just marrying a man. You are marrying the Army as well. No one gives you an instruction manual or handbook. You basically have to figure it out all on your own. Well now there is something to help!

Author Allison Mewes has written the awesome book “Intro To Army Life”. There is some great information in this book! From Understanding Your Soldier and Military Training and Structure to Benefits and Deployment information. And much more in between! There are pictures of uniforms that show all the accoutrements and what they mean. (All the ribbons and pins and other things you find on a uniform!) There is a section about reading the LES (aka paystub) and much, much more.

I enjoyed this book. Allison added some personal stories along with the how-to information. I just wish I had gotten this book 3 years ago! It would have helped me know how to get things done when I first got married and definitely would have helped during deployment. Not to mention all the discounts she talks about!

This is a great book to give new Army wives and even Army girlfriends and fiancees. It will save them a lot of time and hopefully keep the stress level down! The Army life isn’t easy but it is definitely worth it!

If you’d like more information, check out the author’s website, Facebook page, the Blog Tour page, and find the book on Amazon. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I was given a copy of this book for review. All thoughts are 100% my own.

The Art of Being a Southern Belle

I was born and raised in Nashville TN. Also known as Music City, USA. I love my city and I am so proud to be a native Nashvillian. There are so many great things about Nashville that I could do a whole series about it. I’m not going to do that.

There is one thing about Nashville that is lacking, in my opinion. That would be the amount of southern bred people! Now I am sure there are plenty but the truth is there are so many more people from all over the country who come to make it big in music. I have been asked so many times if I moved to Nashville for music. While I do love music, I didn’t choose Nashville. Nashville chose me.

With the lack of southern bred people also comes the lack of southern mentality. The manners, the food, the hospitality. The knowing all your neighbors. The accent. Now I do have an accent, especially if you aren’t from around here. But it is very neutral. When I spend time around my family who live in southern and east Tennessee I can hear a huge difference! I practically sound like a Yankee next to them. On one hand that is a good thing. TRUST ME! At the same time though, I wish my accent were a little more prominent. I’d love to sound a little bit more like Miss Scarlet.

Ok maybe that’s a little too much. I do want be more southern though. I want to entertain my friends and family. I want to be the hostess with the most-est! I want to have perfect manners and etiquette. I want to dress like a lady and wear my pearls every day. Oh and of course call everyone “Honey”, “Darlin” or “Sugah”.

Maybe someday I’ll be the perfect southern belle. Maybe. In the meantime, here is the definition of a southern belle. (from Urban Dictionary)
